Animal handling sessions

Bring science to life with hands‑on, curriculum‑linked animal encounters designed for EYFS, KS1, KS2, and SEND learners.

Our sessions combine real‑world biology with multisensory exploration, supporting pupils to build confidence, curiosity, and scientific understanding through safe, structured animal handling.

What We Offer

  • Curriculum‑aligned learning
Direct links to Working Scientifically, Animals Including Humans, Habitats, Classification, Adaptation, and Life Cycles.

  • Hands‑on, experiential science
Pupils observe, handle, and compare a range of small animals, developing enquiry skills and scientific vocabulary.

  • Differentiated delivery
Fully adaptable for SEND, SEMH, and alternative provision settings, with sensory‑aware approaches and trauma‑informed practice.

Cross‑curricular opportunities

Ideal for literacy, wellbeing, PSHE, and enrichment weeks, supporting confidence, communication, and teamwork.

  • Explore habitats, diets, and adaptations
  • Develop observation, questioning, and classification skills
  • Understand how to care for living things responsibly
  • Build confidence through positive, supported interaction with animals

Positive Impact on Wellbeing

Animal handling offers a powerful route into emotional regulation and relational learning.

Sessions are designed to:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety through calm, sensory‑rich interaction
  • Support self‑esteem and confidence, especially for pupils who struggle in traditional classroom settings
  • Encourage gentle, nurturing behaviour and empathy
  • Provide a grounding, predictable experience that helps pupils feel safe and connected
  • Strengthen communication skills through shared focus and low‑pressure conversation
  • Offer a motivating, non‑judgemental context for pupils who may be disengaged or reluctant learners

These benefits make animal handling a valuable tool for nurture groups, SEMH interventions, and whole‑school wellbeing priorities.
